In the hot summer heat, its important to keep your computer cool. The first step in keeping your computer cool, is keeping it clean. Most are careful to keep the outside of their computer clean, but neglect the inside. Which is the most important.
This machine came into our office. The symptoms were constant freezing and super slow performance. As you can see its very dirty. When CPU / Memory or Video components get too hot they shut off. Which can explain the freezing and slowing down. Some processors shut down completely when they start getting too hot to prevent damage, others are able to throttle down ( slowness ) to prevent heat damage.
Dust and dirt like this can clog up fans and heat sinks causing heat issues, creating shorts as well as many more potential issues. Dust leads to heat issues which leads to poor computer performance. Its relatively easy to keep a PC clean, but all to often ignored until it becomes too late.
Here is what the PC looks like after we have cleaned it out.
After a simple cleaning and some regular maintenance and configurations this machine was up and running.
Best practice is to clean out your PC twice a year using canned air or a vacuum. Our recombination is to clean out your pc quarterly. It is a fairly simple process that requires a can of air, Phillips screwdriver and some time. Or you could certainly give us a call and we’d be happy to take care of it for you.
